Petzl's AM'D TRIACT-LOCK Carabiner is an asymmetrical locking carabiner that has been specially adapted for attaching equipment (rope clamps, etc.) and for use at the end of a lanyard. It has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. This carabiner has three features that make it stand out. First, the Keylock nose of the carabiner prevents the frustrating snag that happens with most tooth-type carabiners. Second, the three-step locking gate, although difficult to use, is a great feature when extra security is important. Finally, the aluminum design drops over 7 oz. compared to steel carabiners. When carrying equipment, 7 oz. becomes pounds very quickly! Although aluminum is lighter than steel, it does corrode and has durability issues. A little extra care during storage and inspection is required with aluminum items because they can't always handle the rigors of an industrial setting. Gravitec often recommends this type of carabiner for personal use since the worker knows every minute of its history and when it has been dropped or possibly damaged. Less exposure reduces concerns about using aluminum carabiners in a rescue system, and rescue applications are a great fit for this carabiner's extra secure gate.
