SOll's Xenon Horizontal Lifeline System merits consideration when a flexible HLL is needed. A customizable system that uses 8 mm stainless steel cable, the Xenon can navigate around corners and span up to 60'. The traveling sleeve is very user-friendly and slides along the cable easily. To reduce snagging of the sleeve on the system's intermediate anchors, they are designed with larger tolerances. The sleeve can be installed or disconnected with one hand. The large, oval design of the sleeve's connecting D-ring is compatible with many lanyards and snaphooks. The system has an integral energy absorber to reduce the forces on the end anchorages and any structural reinforcements to the building that may be required. The Xenon energy absorber also performs as a tension indicator during installation and an impact indicator during inspection. A visual check of the components and confirmation from the impact indicator is usually all that is required for inspection. When choosing a fall protection system, future maintenance should be considered. After a fall, many systems require cutting of the cable to replace damaged intermediate anchorages. The Xenon's cable does not need to be cut for maintenance, resulting in significant savings. The Xenon is plagued with the same problems common to all flexible lifeline systems. End anchor loads are higher. More clearance is required because of deflection of the lifeline. And, modifications to the existing structure may be required because of the higher-end anchor loads.
