If imitation is the highest form of flattery, than Tractel's Derope is being praised by all of its competitors. Specially designed for evacuation and rescue purposes applicable to heights or confined space situations, the Derope's design is the grandfather of automatic descent control device designs. Tractel has rated this unit to lower a 330 lb. person 1,300'. It also has a full complement of accessories including a ladder bracket, edge protectors, PVC carrying bag, rescue lanyard and rope grab. The rigid wheel is more durable than competitor products. At 2.3' per second, a technician could evacuate a 300' foot turbine in 130 seconds, provided that the rescue system is pre-installed. The Derope's housing, like the others, is made from cast aluminum. Care must be taken during storage and use not to drop the unit or tension the device against a cleated rope. The Derope is ideal for utility worker rescue kits, as well as for descent from windmills. Because of the simplistic nature of the Derope and its use, training knowledge retention proves strong in comparison to other traditional rescue methods.
