Gravitec Experts Say: This Rope Grab is a fall arrest device that travels up and down a 5/8" vertical lifeline rope. It grabs the rope via a cam design that locks a fallen worker in place on the lifeline. This product offers hands-free operation and ultra-smooth travel action while ascending or decending. The cam and hinge design also allows for quick and easy installation on the rope. It's unique, versatile, lightweight and affordable and comes with an 15" shock-absorbing lanyard which is also available in a 30" length. This rope grab is the fastest-activating automatic fall arrestor available. Every inch matters on a vertical lifeline because increased free fall and deceleration distances (due to rope stretch and factor two falls) are common. The only fall arrestors that perform better are manual models, but they must be operated by hand, making them practically useless when hands-free climbing is required. Most companies have to buy a manual and automatic fall arrestor to meet all of their vertical lifeline needs. This fall arrester does double duty. At the flip of a switch, it can change from an automatic unit (used for vertical climbing) to a manual unit (used for slopes or roofing applications). This means that one fall arrestor can work on any surface from flat to vertical. All metal components make it very sturdy. Used with a Nystron vertical lifeline (available for purchase in the Rope section), you have a combination that Gravitec has been successfully using for the better part of 20 years.
