This kernmantle (inside core and outside sheath), double-braided lifeline has a breaking strength of 16,300 lbs., more than enough strength to qualify as a lifeline in any jurisdiction. The outer sheath is made of polyester to handle day-to-day work and provide maximum abrasion resistance. The inner rope is double-braided nylon, which has high strength and excellent energy-absorbing qualities. The polyester sheath provides a high level of protection and the nylon provides strength and elastic properties. This unique design provides the advantages of high strength retention, good energy absorption and shock mitigation, and excellent abrasion resistance, especially in wet environments. Nystron is stronger than an all-polyester rope and it is fully spliceable. This lifeline is worth the higher cost since it does not have to be replaced near as often as its three-strand competition.
